How to take a Placement test

1

Go to /placement

Three track cards are shown — Engineering, BBA, and MBA. Each card shows live question count, duration, competency areas, and companies covered.

2

Click 'Start Mock Test'

You must be logged in. The system creates a timed assessment session and redirects you to the test screen immediately.

3

Complete the test

Questions are shown one at a time with a live countdown timer. Answers are auto-saved on each submission — you cannot go back to a previous question.

4

View your report

On the final question, you are redirected to your Placement Report showing: overall score, per-competency breakdown, company readiness indicator, and correct answers with explanations. Upgrade to AI report for a personalised 4-week study plan.

The placement timer is server-side and cannot be paused. Once you click Start, the clock runs until all questions are answered or time expires. Ensure you have uninterrupted internet before starting.

Career Guidance Report

The Career Guidance flow helps students (typically Class 10–12 or first-year undergraduates) discover which career paths best match their abilities and personality. It runs three complementary assessments and generates a unified report with ranked career recommendations.

The 3-pillar assessment

Cognitive

30 MCQ questions covering Basic Mathematics, Basic Science, and Basic Social Sciences. Derives recommended stream (Science/Commerce/Humanities).

Aptitude

60 MCQ questions across Analytical Thinking, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude. Measures raw reasoning ability.

Personality

168-item Likert questionnaire (no timer). Big Five OCEAN + Holland RIASEC + India Cultural Layer. No right or wrong answers.

Step-by-step flow

1

Go to /career-guidance

The page explains the three pillars and shows your completion status for each. Start any pillar — you can complete them in any order or on different days.

2

Complete all three assessments

The cognitive and aptitude tests are timed MCQ sessions (handled the same as any assessment session). The personality questionnaire has no timer and can be paused and resumed.

3

Generate your unified report

Once all three are complete, the system automatically computes your Unified Career Report — a weighted blend of all three inputs (Cognitive 60% · Personality 25% · Aptitude 15%).

4

Review your career recommendations

The report at /career-guidance/unified-report shows: your recommended stream, top 12 career matches with fit score and tier (Excellent/Good/Possible/Stretch), and a subject-score breakdown.

Personality assessment details

The personality questionnaire at /personality/[sessionId] runs through three frameworks in sequence, with a transition screen between each:

  • Big Five (OCEAN) — 120 items rated 1–5 (Strongly Disagree → Strongly Agree). About 30% of items are reverse-scored.
  • Holland RIASEC — 36 items describing work activities. Rates your preference for each type of work environment.
  • India Cultural Layer — 12 items about family orientation, collectivism, and long-term thinking.

The personality questionnaire has no timer. You can close it and resume later — your progress is saved on every answer submission.

For Individuals (B2C)

Individual accounts are free to create and do not require any company affiliation. You control your data and your results are private by default.

Creating your account

1

Go to /register

Click Get Started on the home page or navigate to /register. Fill in your name, email, password, current role, years of experience, and preferred language (English or Hindi).

2

Verify your email

Check your inbox for a verification link. Clicking it confirms your account and unlocks full access.

3

Complete your profile

Add your designation, industry, and education level. The more context you provide, the better the assessment engine can tailor questions to your background.

4

Take your first assessment

From the dashboard, click Take Assessment, choose the competencies you want to be tested on, and begin. Your first assessment each month is always free.

You can change your preferred language at any time from your profile settings. Switching to Hindi will serve learning content and questions in Hindi where available.

Your dashboard

Your dashboard shows four quick actions: Take Assessment, Learn,My Reports, and Progress. Below that you'll see your competency radar chart (built after your first assessment) and a history of recent sessions.

Before you test — Learning content

Every competency has a dedicated Learn page that explains:

  • What the competency is and why it matters
  • What assessors and employers look for
  • How the test is structured and what types of questions to expect
  • Example questions with explanations
  • Tips to improve your score

Reading the learning content before each assessment is strongly recommended. The content is designed to give you the same preparation that a coach would — it will not give you the answers, but it will help you think in the right direction.

Tracking your growth over time

Every assessment you complete is stored. The Progress view shows a timeline of your scores per competency — so you can see, for example, that your Communication score went from 52% in March to 74% in June. Use this to demonstrate growth in performance reviews or job interviews.

For Organizations (B2B)

Organizations get a dedicated workspace (tenant) on RaganEval with full control over users, assessments, and reports. All data is isolated — employees from other companies can never see yours.

Institution enquiry form

If you're a college placement cell, training institute, or corporate HR team and want to discuss a custom plan — fill in the enquiry form at /contact. Provide your institution name, team size, and primary use case (placement prep / career counselling / bulk assessment / hiring). We respond within 1 business day with a custom quote. No fixed tiers, no guesswork.

Registering your organization

1

Go to /company/register

Fill in your company name, work email, industry, team size, and city. Then create the admin account — this becomes your TENANT_ADMIN.

2

Explore the admin dashboard

After registration, you'll be taken to the dashboard. From here you can manage users, create assessment templates, view org-wide reports, and configure settings.

3

Invite employees

Go to Team → Invite. Enter email addresses (bulk CSV upload supported). Each invitee receives an email with a personalized sign-up link that automatically connects them to your organization as EMPLOYEE.

TPO & Placement Features

The Placement module gives Training & Placement Officers (TPOs) a full pipeline to run college placement drives — from scheduling companies and rounds, to offering letters, digital signatures, AI readiness reports, and live video mock interviews. Students participate through the /placement portal.

AI Readiness Score & PDF Report

Any TPO or student can generate an AI-powered placement readiness score from the student's profile — assessments taken, CGPA, internships, and CV presence are all factored in. The score comes with a band (RED / AMBER / GREEN), a per-factor breakdown, and company-specific readiness indicators for drives the student is enrolled in.

1

Student: go to /placement

The placement home shows your overall readiness score card. If no score exists yet, click Generate AI Report. The system calls the AI engine and returns a score within seconds.

2

Download PDF certificate

Once a score exists, click Download PDF. A branded PDF is generated on-demand showing your score, band, breakdown table, and a QR code for verification. No S3 upload — the PDF is streamed directly to your browser.

3

TPO: view drive-wide scores

From TPO → Drives → [Drive] → Readiness, TPOs see all enrolled students with their band badges. Use the "Download All AI Reports" button to fetch individual PDFs sequentially — progress is shown in the header as "Downloading X/N…".

BandScoreMeaning
GREEN70–100Strong profile — ready for most drives
AMBER40–69Moderate profile — targeted preparation recommended
RED0–39Significant gaps — focused upskilling needed

AI credits are consumed each time a readiness report is generated. Students and TPOs share the institution's monthly credit pool. See the Plan & Credits section below for limits per tier.

E-Signature on Offer Letters

When a TPO extends an offer (EXTENDED status), the student can digitally sign the offer letter directly in the browser — no printing, scanning, or PDF tools needed. The signed certificate is stored and downloadable by both the student and the TPO.

1

Student: go to /placement/offers

Your offer cards show status badges. An offer with status Extended andSignature Pending has a Sign Offer button.

2

Open the signing page

Click Sign Offer to open the offer detail page. It shows the company name, CTC offered, acceptance deadline, and a signature canvas.

3

Draw your signature

Use your mouse or touchscreen to draw your signature in the canvas. Click Clearto redraw. When satisfied, click Sign & Acknowledge.

4

Download the signed certificate

After signing, a PDF certificate is generated containing your offer details, embedded signature image, signing timestamp, and IP address. Click Download Signed Certificate.

TPO: drive signature status

In TPO → Drives → [Drive] → Offers, the summary bar shows total offers, signed count, and pending count. Filter by All / Signed / Pending and download individual signed PDFs.

Legal validity

The signature PNG, signing timestamp, IP address, and user agent are stored against the offer record. This provides an audit trail for institutional records.

Each offer can only be signed once. Once a signature is submitted it cannot be changed. If a student signs by mistake, the TPO must revoke the offer and re-extend it.

Video Mock Interviews

TPOs can schedule live browser-based video interview rooms for a placement drive round. Students join from their dashboard; external panelists join via a one-click invite link — no RaganEval account required. All peer-to-peer video uses WebRTC directly in the browser with no third-party video service.

For TPOs — scheduling and managing rooms

1

Go to TPO → Drives → [Drive] → Mock Interviews

Click the drive, then the Mock Interviews tab. You'll see all scheduled rooms for this drive with their status badges (Scheduled / Active / Ended).

2

Create a room

Enter a room title (e.g. "TCS Technical Round 1") and an optional scheduled date/time. Click Create Room. The room starts in SCHEDULED status.

3

Copy the panelist invite link

Click Copy Panelist Link next to any room. A unique one-time invite URL is generated and copied to your clipboard. Send it to the panelist via email or WhatsApp — they click the link to join, no account needed.

4

Start and end the room

When the interview is ready to begin, click Start — the room becomes ACTIVE and participants can connect. Click End when the interview is complete. Ended rooms cannot be restarted.

For Students — joining a mock interview

1

Open the interview link from your TPO

Your TPO will share the room link or navigate you to/placement/mock-interview/[roomId]. You must be logged in as a student.

2

Allow camera and microphone

The browser will ask for camera and microphone permission. Click Allow. Your camera preview appears immediately. The page then registers you as a participant.

3

Wait for the panelist

Once the WebRTC connection is established (green "Connected" badge in the header), the panelist's video appears in the right panel when they join.

4

Leave and submit feedback

Click the red phone button to leave. A Session Complete form appears — rate the session (1–5 stars) and add optional notes. Your feedback is saved locally.

For Panelists — joining via invite link

1

Click the invite link

Open the link shared by the TPO. It takes you to/mock-interview/panelist/[token]. No login or account is required.

2

Allow media permissions and join

Allow camera and microphone when prompted. The page verifies the invite token with the server, then connects you to the room.

3

Conduct the interview

Use the media controls to toggle mic, camera, and screen share. Click the record button to capture the session locally — a pulsing REC 01:23 timer shows elapsed recording time.

4

Leave and save notes

Click the phone button to end. A feedback form lets you rate the candidate (1–5 stars) and add interview notes. A download link for the local recording appears if recording was active.

Media Controls

Mic toggle, camera toggle, screen share (replaces your camera feed), record button, and leave call.

Peer-to-peer only

Video streams directly between participants — no media passes through RaganEval servers. Only STOMP signaling messages are relayed.

Post-session feedback

Both student and panelist see a star rating + notes form after leaving. Feedback is stored in browser localStorage.

Video mock interviews require a modern browser (Chrome 90+, Firefox 90+, Safari 15+) with camera and microphone access. The invite link is single-use per panelist — generate a new link for each additional panelist joining the same room.

Plan Tiers & AI Credits

Each institution (tenant) is on a plan that determines how many AI-powered operations (readiness score generation, AI study plans) can be run per month. Credits reset automatically on the 1st of each month. The current plan and remaining credits are always visible on the TPO → Settings → Plan page.

PlanAI Credits / monthBest for
FREE5Small departments, trial use
STARTER50Departments up to ~150 students
PRO200Active placement cells with multiple drives
ENTERPRISEUnlimitedLarge institutions, no credit limits

Credit pill

A credit counter appears in the top-right of any page that can consume credits. It turns red when ≤10% of credits remain.

Credit exhausted (402)

When credits reach zero, AI operations return a 402 error and an upgrade prompt appears. Existing reports remain accessible.

To see your plan details, renewal date, and remaining credits go to/tpo/settings/plan. A progress bar shows credits used vs. total for the current month.

Question Bank Management

SUPER_ADMINs and TENANT_ADMINs can build and manage their own question banks from a dedicated interface at /admin/questions (SUPER_ADMIN) or /dashboard/questions (TENANT_ADMIN). The interface has four tabs.

Tab 1 — Question Bank (browse & manage)

A paginated table of all questions in your bank. Filter by category, competency, difficulty level (1–5), approval status, and language. Each row shows the question stem, competency name, difficulty badge, language, and approval status.

  • Approve — SUPER_ADMIN can approve individual questions to make them available in assessments.
  • Edit — opens the question in the Add Question form pre-filled. Saving resets approval to OK (auto-approved).
  • Delete — soft-deletes the question. It is removed from the bank but not from historical session records.

Questions created by TENANT_ADMIN are automatically approved and immediately available for use in that tenant's assessment templates — no SUPER_ADMIN action required.

Tab 2 — Add Question (manual entry)

Add a single question with full control over every field:

Category + Competency

Filter by category first (FOUNDATION, LEADERSHIP, etc.) then pick the competency from the narrowed list.

Difficulty (1–5)

Visual picker with labels — Foundational through Expert. Sets which assessment tiers this question appears in.

Options builder

2–6 answer options. Click the radio circle next to the correct answer. Remove options with ×.

Language

English (en) or Hindi (hi). Toggle before submitting — cannot be changed after without editing.

Solving trick

A 30-second shortcut shown to students in the AI study plan after they view the correct answer.

Company tags

Comma-separated company codes (TCS_NQT, AMCAT, IBPS). Used to power company readiness indicators in placement reports.

Tab 3 — Import CSV

Bulk-import up to 500 questions per file. Download the CSV template first — it includes all column headers and one example row.

ColumnRequiredNotes
categoryFOUNDATION / LEADERSHIP / EXECUTION / DIGITAL / FUNCTIONAL
competencyNameMust match an existing competency name exactly (case-insensitive)
textFull question stem

topicTagSub-topic label, max 80 characters
companyTagsPipe-separated: TCS_NQT|AMCAT|IBPS
languageen or hi (defaults to en)
solvingTrick30-second shortcut shown in AI study plan

Duplicate detection runs on every row — a question with the same text and competency already in the bank is skipped and reported as DUPLICATE (not an error). The import result shows counts for Imported, Duplicates skipped, and Failed separately.

Tab 4 — Import Document (PDF / Image)

Upload a question paper, scanned document, or screenshot and let the AI extract all MCQ questions automatically. Supported formats: PDF, PNG, JPG/JPEG, WEBP, GIF (max 20 MB).

1

Select competency

Choose the category and competency that all questions in this document belong to. All extracted questions are assigned to this competency.

2

Set difficulty

Choose Auto-detect per question (Claude estimates difficulty 1–5 individually based on complexity) or select a fixed level to apply to all questions.

3

Upload file

Drag and drop or click to select your file. The system sends it to Claude (vision model) which reads the document and extracts every MCQ it finds — including scanned/handwritten question papers.

4

Review results

The import result shows how many questions were extracted and saved, how many were skipped as duplicates, and any questions that could not be parsed (e.g. no options found).

For best OCR results, use a flat, well-lit scan at 300 DPI or higher. PDFs with embedded text (not scanned) extract faster and more accurately than image-based PDFs.

Exam Builder

The Exam Builder lets SUPER_ADMIN and TENANT_ADMIN users create a fully custom exam in minutes — without needing to configure a competency framework first. Once published, a shareable link is generated that you can send directly to candidates.

Who can use it

SUPER_ADMIN

Creates platform-wide exams (no tenant scope). Accessible at Admin → Exam Builder.

TENANT_ADMIN

Creates exams scoped to your organization. Accessible at Dashboard → Exam Builder.

Step 1 — Exam Details

Fill in the basics before adding questions:

FieldRequiredNotes
Exam NameYesShown to admins in the template list. Max 120 chars.
DescriptionNoInternal note about the exam purpose.
InstructionsNoShown to the candidate on the start screen — e.g. "No negative marking. Read each question carefully."
Duration (minutes)YesMin 5, max 180. A timer is shown throughout the exam.
Passing Score (%)YesCandidates scoring at or above this percentage are marked Passed. Default 70%.
CompetencyWhen typing questionsRequired if you add inline questions. Determines which competency the new questions are linked to.

Step 2 — Add Questions

Three ways to populate the exam — you can combine them:

1

Type Questions manually

Enter question text, 2–6 answer options, mark the correct option, set difficulty (1–5), and optionally add a topic tag and explanation. Questions are auto-saved to the Question Bank as approved.

2

Pick from Bank

Search your existing approved question bank filtered by the selected competency. Tick as many questions as needed. Questions are pinned to this exam in the order selected.

3

Import CSV

Upload a CSV file using the standard template (download link in the tab). Questions are bulk-imported into the bank and pinned to the exam. Duplicates are silently skipped.

Step 3 — Publish & Share

After clicking Create Exam, the platform generates a shareable exam link:

https://app.raganeval.com/exam/{exam-id}

Send this link to candidates via email or WhatsApp — they don't need a RaganEval account to take the exam. The exam shows exactly the questions you pinned, in the order you added them, with a countdown timer and the candidate's pass/fail result shown immediately on submission.

Exam Builder questions are pinned — every candidate sees the same questions in the same order. If you want randomised selection from a larger pool, use a standard Assessment Template instead.

Understanding Assessments

Assessment types

SELFSelf Assessment

You initiate it to benchmark yourself. Ideal for career planning and personal development.

HIRINGHiring Assessment

Assigned to candidates during recruitment. Results go to HR and hiring manager.

PROMOTIONPromotion Review

Used to validate readiness for a higher role. Often paired with a manager assessment.

360360 Assessment

Multiple people assess one person from different angles — self, manager, peers, direct reports.

CERTIFICATIONCertification

Tests mastery of a specific competency set with a defined passing score.

How questions are selected

The assessment engine pulls from a bank of 100+ questions per competency. For each session it selects questions based on your experience level (difficulty 1–5), ensures no question repeats from your last session, and maintains the configured difficulty distribution (e.g., 20% easy, 60% medium, 20% hard). This means each assessment is unique.

Difficulty levels

1
Foundational Recall and basic understanding. Suitable for new entrants.
2
Basic Straightforward application of concepts in familiar situations.
3
Intermediate Analysis and judgment in moderately complex scenarios.
4
Advanced Synthesis and evaluation in ambiguous, multi-factor situations.
5
Expert Strategic, novel problem-solving at senior/leadership level.

Anti-cheat measures

  • Tab switches are counted and shown in the report (excessive switching may flag the result)
  • The server-side timer is authoritative — client-side manipulation cannot extend time
  • Questions are served one at a time and cannot be skipped back to
  • IP address and device info are logged per session
  • Question pool is large enough that the same question rarely repeats within 90 days

Closing the browser does not pause the timer. Your session remains active server-side until it expires. Answered questions are auto-saved every time you submit an answer — you will not lose responses already submitted.

Reading Your Report

Every completed assessment generates a detailed report. Here is how to read it.

Overall score and band

BandScore rangeWhat it means
NOVICE0–39%Foundational gaps; needs structured development before being effective in this area
DEVELOPING40–59%Basic awareness but inconsistent application; coaching and practice recommended
PROFICIENT60–74%Solid, consistent performance; ready for independent work in most situations
ADVANCED75–89%Strong performance in complex situations; can mentor others
EXPERT90–100%Mastery level; strategic thinker who defines best practice for the organization

Competency radar chart

The radar chart plots your score for each competency on a polygon. The further from the center, the stronger your score. A balanced polygon means well-rounded competency. A lopsided shape clearly shows which areas to develop. When you retake assessments, you can overlay radar charts from different dates to see exactly where growth happened.

Percentile rank

Your percentile rank tells you where you stand relative to everyone who has completed the same assessment template. A rank of 78 means you scored higher than 78% of all test-takers. Percentile is calculated fresh each time more data comes in — your score does not change, but your rank can improve as the peer group grows.

Benchmarks

vs. Your organization

How your score compares to the average of all employees in your company who took the same template.

vs. Industry average

How your score compares to all RaganEval users in the same industry who took this template.

Strengths and development areas

The report automatically highlights your top 3 scoring competencies as Strengthsand your lowest 3 as Development Areas. Each development area links directly to its learning content page so you can start improving immediately.

From Phase 4 onwards, an AI narrative (powered by Claude) will write a plain-language summary of your report in English or Hindi — explaining what your scores mean for your career, what opportunities match your profile, and what a practical development plan would look like.

Competency Library

RaganEval's competency framework is based on the Universal Competency Matrix — a research-backed model covering 60+ competencies across five categories. All global competencies are platform-managed and available to every user.

Foundation~15 competencies

Core professional skills required at all levels. Examples: Communication, Problem Solving, Time Management, Teamwork, Adaptability.

Leadership~12 competencies

Skills for leading people and driving strategy. Examples: Decision Making, Conflict Resolution, Coaching & Mentoring, Strategic Thinking.

Execution~12 competencies

Skills for getting results reliably. Examples: Project Management, Quality Orientation, Result Focus, Risk Management.

Digital~10 competencies

Modern digital and data skills. Examples: Data Literacy, Digital Fluency, Cybersecurity Awareness, AI Collaboration.

Functional~15+ competencies

Industry-specific and role-specific skills. Examples: Financial Analysis, Sales Acumen, Technical Proficiency, HR Operations.

Competency levels (1–5)

Each competency has five behavioral levels — Novice, Developing, Proficient, Advanced, Expert. Each level has concrete behavioral indicators: specific, observable actions that demonstrate that level of mastery. Assessors and the question engine use these indicators to determine which questions map to which level.

Organizations on Business and Enterprise plans can add custom competencies specific to their business. Custom competencies follow the same 5-level structure and can be included in any assessment template.

Account & Settings

Profile settings

  • Name, designation, department — used to tailor assessment difficulty
  • Preferred language — English or Hindi (more languages coming)
  • Years of experience — sets your baseline difficulty tier
  • Password — minimum 8 characters, at least one number
  • MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) — TOTP-based, enable from Settings → Security

Session security

RaganEval uses short-lived JWT access tokens (15 minutes) and long-lived refresh tokens (7 days). Logging out immediately invalidates your session server-side — no one can reuse your token. If you suspect your account was compromised, use Change Password — this invalidates all existing refresh tokens.

Data export and deletion

Under India's DPDP Act, you have the right to request a full export of your data or request account deletion. Go to Settings → Privacy → Download my data or Delete my account. Data export is delivered as a JSON file within 48 hours. Account deletion is permanent and removes all personal data within 30 days.

Student Notification Inbox

Students see all their notifications at Placement → Notifications. Each card shows the event type badge, subject, and can be expanded to reveal the full message and delivery timestamp. Notifications are sorted newest first.

Auto-triggered Notifications

When a TPO extends an offer, the system automatically sends an Offer Extended email to the student — no manual step needed. Other auto-triggers can be added as the system grows (e.g. shortlisting a student for the next round).

Email delivery requires the MAIL_USERNAME environment variable to be configured on the server. If not set, notifications are logged internally but not sent. Contact your system administrator.
